Volunteer reflections elderly project

I was always impressed with hope for humanity as a charity and I had personally seen what the team had achieved in the past, so when I saw the elderly befriending scheme I wanted to jump on board as working with the elderly was something I was passionate about. When I applied Mehmoona got in touch after reading my application and doing some checks and then made an appointment to see Marion who is the lady I now regularly see. I think we were both apprehensive at first, myself and Marion, but Mehmoona who initially introduced us was the ice breaker...... it's so surreal how she had introduced a lady to me that was so similar to me in personality; we got on like a house on fire.  Marion is 82 and is suffering from mobility issues so is home bound. I visit Marion weekly and we have created a great bond; we laugh, share funny jokes, watch old films and even discuss hair and make-up together. I think she gets on with me as we are both so laid back and have a good sense of humour. We often have lunch together, snap together lol and generally enjoy each other’s company and I often call her too to check up on her. It's like I know her personality; when she is feeling down or un well I know and vice versa. I feel so blessed that hope for humanity have given me this opportunity to meet such a humble and beautiful lady; Marion has given me so much joy by her presence. Although Marion has a loving caring family, she lives by herself and loves company of others and mine- we miss each other when we do not see each other. This whole experience and journey has been a blessing in disguise and I would definitely recommend others who have the time to get involved it is so rewarding in many ways.
